Sail Rock

Everybody wants to see a whale shark. The dive site with the highest frequency of whale shark encounters is Sail Rock. Well, we have to stay honest here, they aren't there all the time, they are not even very often there. But there are times when whale sharks can be seen for many days in a row. Usually good months are August, September and October. They can be seen from time to time all around the year though. You just have to be lucky :-)

Whale sharks aside Sail Rock is still the top 5-Star dive site in our area. You can dive Sail Rock 100 times and you won't get bored of it. There is just too much to see. It's starts with the rock itself that sits about 15m above the water and slopes down to 35m. The rock is covered with anemones, corals, sponges and sea shells. At the north there is a natural chimney swim through. It starts at 5-6 m, got a 1 1/2 m wide and 2m long window around 12m and an exit at 18m.

The main reason to visit Sail Rock is the abundance of fish. Schools of big eye trevally, fusiliers, yellow tale and chevron barracuda, bat fish and more. Big game like giant grouper, potato grouper, tuna, queen fish, cobia and the whale shark.
