Calypso Diving is one of the first dive centers at Koh Samui. Since 1987 people from all over the world, all kind of cultures, genders and ages chose this dive center to try diving, learn diving, go fun diving, snorkeling and just having fun exploring the ocean.

MV CALYPSO

Throughout the years Calypso always questioned what it was doing. The company constantly challenged itself. Always with the vision of a fast, safe and comfortable dive trip in mind the dive center evolved to what it is today. 

Starting out with converted fishing boats Calypso was running painfully slow and long trips. Going to Koh Tao would take may hours. Which is why there were only overnight trips to Koh Tao. It was good and it was an awesome time. It was what people asked for.

The next step of Calypsos evolution was a speed boat. Now it was possible to run day trips to Koh Tao. The converted fishing boat MV Calypso would now for many years to come be stationary at Koh Tao. It was a wonderful time. Whoever wanted to do just a day trip and spent the night in their hotel at Koh Samui could now do that. Other company started to copy that idea.

A bit later an inflatable raft was purchased. It was the birth of "Big3", a popular dive trip to the 3 top 5-Star dive sites (Southwest Pinnacle, Chumphon Pinnacle and Sailrock). Throughout the years others would try to copy this trip but never really accomplished their mission.

The speed boat had the big advantage of speed. But at too many days of the year the journey with a speed boat is quite rough. This painful discomfort lead to the next level of evolution.

When the big ferry boats started to run trips from Koh Samui to Koh Tao, the speed boat was sent to an early retirement and from this time Calypso customers would go with the comfortable ferries. At Koh Tao the customers would switch from the ferry to the MV Calypso and back in the afternoon. The problem with the discomfort of the speedboat was solved. Unfortunately the ferry schedule and their service changed and the trips became very long again. Too much time (4 to 6 hours every day) was spent on the ferry for a day trip. This lead to another level of evolution.



A boat builder was found who builds high-speed catamarans. Fast boats and quite comfortable. Two catamarans were bought. Now Calypso was independent again. With those fast boats the quality of the dive trip was much higher than before. No rushing to get the ferry boat, no long hours sitting on a big ferry boat. But, those catamarans were not just it. They were quite comfortable and definitely more comfortable but due to their size not comfortable enough. It was time for the next level of evolution when the boat builder offered to build bigger catamarans.
